QR Code Mysteries: Active Learning for the Library

 Introduction

Active learning is all about engaging students directly in the learning process rather than having them sit passively and absorb information. This week, I explored the blog post QR Code Mysteries which describes a fun and interactive way for students to learn through movement, problem-solving, and discovery

Summary of the Activity

Students in the QR Code Mysteries classroom activity scan room QR codes to obtain clues which guide them through different tasks and questions. The activity converts standard classroom instruction into an interactive competition which drives students to find solutions through teamwork.

Why This Is Active Learning

Students must perform physical actions to find and scan QR codes while using their minds to solve clues and working with others in pairs or groups during this activity. Students actively pursue information while developing their own understanding of the subject matter.

Ideas for Growth & Library Applications

This activity could easily be adapted to the Hammond Public Library. For example:

    • The library needs to introduce QR codes, which will help visitors navigate the building and simultaneously indicate the location of resources in various sections.
    • The Summer Reading program would link readers to theme-based trivia questions and challenges through QR codes.
    • The library could implement digital literacy workshops, which would enable patrons to access brief tutorials about database usage and e-book and library application operation through QR code scanning.
    • I also see opportunities to involve teens in creating their own QR code challenges as part of a maker program, giving them ownership over the learning experience.

Reflection

Modern libraries function on active learning as their core principle because it enables users to interact with information directly rather than passively receiving it. The approach at Hammond Public Library allows the library to develop active learning experiences that transform ordinary library visits into purposeful educational activities for lifelong development.

Conclusion

The interactive design of QR Code Mysteries showed me that learning reaches its peak effectiveness through the combination of entertainment with interactive features. Active learning achieves its highest level of success in libraries because these spaces enable discovery-based learning activities. The implementation of these activities within programming allows us to develop educational experiences that create lasting memories while building stronger connections with our community.

  1. You aren't wrong about entertainment and interactivity playing a key role in learning. When we do something we enjoy and can relate to we are more likely to remember it.

  2. Hey!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog this week! How fun and magical to introduce a sort of game in the classroom or library! I really think this would be a great active learning strategy for children, teens, and adults. It would allow kiddos or students to have fun while they learn and the adults to have nostaglic fun while learning to use the library. What would be a theme you would do?
